Curriculum Foundation Subjects
Curriculum Statement 2024
When designing our school’s curriculum, we think about Intent (what we want pupils to learn), the implementation (how we teach) and the impact (what pupils will have learnt as an outcome). We understand that our curriculum needs to continually evolve to keep pace with the world our children are preparing to live in. This is also set out in the school’s strap-line: Life Long Learners for a Changing World.
Our curriculum is knowledge-rich and includes the teaching of the disciplinary skills needed for our children to learn how to build secure knowledge, skills and understanding for each subject area. Our curriculum makes continual links both horizontally (looping back on previous learning) and vertically (making links between subjects) to ensure that learning is remembered and can be extended by students for deeper understanding.
Our curriculum design is based on where we wish our pupils to be by the time they leave us in Year 6. Our teachers have strong subject knowledge, creating effective learning pathways through subjects that enable pupils to build key knowledge and skills, while also supporting children to develop as confident, caring individuals who are inspired to learn more.

We follow the National Curriculum 2014, adapting teaching to the children’s interests where possible so that learning can be more personalised to the age groups, interests of the individuals and the class as a whole. The children will experience IGNITE opportunities through trips, visitors to the school and special events and they experience extended learning opportunities through our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) projects. Teaching happens in classrooms, outside areas and off site to give a breadth of learning opportunities to all our pupils. British Values, including democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance, are taught through all aspects of the curriculum and daily school life.
